CHAMPAIGN, Ill., May 21, 2025 – CZYK Publishing has released the book “Eat Like a Local – Champaign-Urbana” by Sal Nudo. Nudo’s second book with the publisher contains interviews with individuals in the restaurant industry as well as slice-of-life encounters at 50 C-U eateries. Nudo’s family members, friends, and new restaurant acquaintances all make appearances in the book.

“Readers will get a day-in-the-life sense of what it’s like to eat at great places in Champaign-Urbana as well as the nitty-gritty details on what it takes to run a restaurant and do it for a living for a long time,” Nudo said.

C-U residents will be familiar with the well-known eateries in Nudo’s book, while tourists of the area will discover what makes the establishments stand out and has contributed to their longevity. Food in the book runs the gamut from the Indian fare served at The Himalayan Chimney in downtown Champaign to the sweet indulgences of Jarling’s Custard Cup on the well-traveled Kirby Avenue.

Nudo is a writer and communications professional who has worked at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign for close to 20 years. He has lived in Champaign-Urbana since the late 1970s and loves the town and surrounding area. Nudo lives in Champaign with his wife, Jill, also a longtime C-U resident, and their son, Logan.
